Passports Now Required for American Travelers to Mexico

Emergency Numbers
The Sonora Office of Tourism has set up special numbers for use by tourists to report emergencies  register complaints, or make other inquiries.  From the U.S. the number is 01-800-476-6662, and from within Mexico it is 01-800-716-2555.

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative requires all travelers, U.S. citizens and foreign nationals alike, to present a passport or other document that denote identity and citizenship when departing from or entering the United States by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and south America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. This proposed implementation will strength border security and facilitate entry into the United States. Please visit the"Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative" site for more information.

Travel Warnings

American Citizens traveling to Mexico or other countries are advised to review Travel Warning and Consular Information sheets posted within the U.S. State Department Internet site. These Travel Warning sheets provide updates on local conditions and recommend what areas should be avoided. For more information, please go to http://travel.state.gov
