John D. Breidenstine
A career member of the U.S. Foreign Service with a personal rank of Counselor, John D. Breidenstine arrived in Hermosillo, Mexico on August 21, 2008 to take up his duties as the U.S. Consul General.
Before coming to Hermosillo, John was the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Regional Director for all Commercial Service operations in Europe and Eurasia, and from 2003 to 2006, was the Commercial Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. Prior to a 2002 reconstruction-related assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, he served for 5 years as the Commercial Counselor in Ankara, Turkey. John established the American Business Center and Commercial Service Operations in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (1994-1997), and from the end of the Gulf War in 1991 until 1993, he served at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait in support of the country's reconstruction and re-supply efforts. John began his career in 1990 as a commercial officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Munich, Germany.
Before joining the U.S. Government, John worked as an Account Executive for International Paper in New York City and Atlanta. He is a 1984 Graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina and studied international relations at the University of Miami in Florida and at the Free University of Berlin in Germany. John is married to Judith Valdes of Sinaloa, Mexico, and they have one son, Victor.
